TIP 1432 – Become An Active Bystander
Tuesday Aug 23, 2022
Tuesday Aug 23, 2022
We all have a responsibility to do something when we see harassment happening.
But too often we turn the other way. We don’t know what to do. We don’t know what to say.
When we intervene, we don’t just reduce trauma for the person being harassed., we also start to chip away at a culture that allows this harassment to be so prevalent.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency!
Building Resiliency and celebrating Bystander Awareness Month:
These five ‘D’ strategies may be just the thing to help you intervene.
Distract – interrupt the incident. You could engage directly with the person who is being targeted. Start a conversation or ask a question about something completely unrelated. Or you may accidentally-on-purpose spill your coffee.
Direct - You may want to directly respond to harassment by naming what is happening or confronting the harasser. This may be risky: the harasser may redirect their abuse towards you and may escalate the situation, so use this with caution.
Delegate – Look for assistance from someone in authority, like a supervisor, bus driver, security guard or front desk attendant.
Document – It may be helpful to record the incident, but keep safety in mind at all times. And never post the video without the person that was targeted’s permission.
Delay – Even if you can’t act in the moment, you can make a difference for the person who has been harassed by checking in on them after the fact. Ask them if there’s any way you can support them.
it is important that we show up for one another as active bystanders. This lets the person who is being targeted know that they are not alone. However, in any interaction always prioritize your own safety while intervening.

TIP 1431 – Be An Angel
Monday Aug 22, 2022
Monday Aug 22, 2022
Our angels watch out for us. Our angels wipe away our tears. Our angels make our day brighter just being there. And many times we do not recognize that we are looking into the eyes of our angels.
There are probably people in your life that could really use an angel by their side right now. Why not be that person? It’s easy to share love and kindness with the world if you put in a little bit of effort.
On this special day, I am encouraging you to not only be someone’s angel, but to recognize those angels who are already in our lives. They may be our parents, our grandparents, our children, our doctors, our nurses, our teachers, or our friends.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency!
Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Be An Angel Day:
Look for your angels – those who have made your life easier – and say thank you. They won’t want it, because our true angels don’t usually feel like they have done anything exceptional, but we all can benefit from the appreciation of others.
In such a busy society, people forget to stop and listen. You can be an angel to someone today just by taking the time to really listen to what they have to say. Listen with empathy. Listen without judgement.
Speak with kindness. Simply using kind words to spread positivity can lift up others around you.
Angels offer a helping hand to those in need. When we show a small gesture of kindness and compassion to others, we are spreading love.
Those who encounter you will be lifted up by your blessings of compassion and kindness. Being like an angel is easy, if you just put in the effort.

TIP 1430 – Safe and Secure
Sunday Aug 21, 2022
Sunday Aug 21, 2022
If you are a parent, you may remember when your little one learned how to crawl. All of a sudden you started to see danger in every corner, in every wall plug, in every drawer and in every room.
You became super aware of the many potential dangers hiding in your home.
Is that a bad thing to be on guard and to look for danger? No. We are hard-wired to do so.
Early humans faced a lot of dangers, and their ability to detect danger evolved to help them evade or battle those dangers in order to survive.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency!
So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating National Safe At Home Week:
The purpose of National Safe At Home Week is to raise awareness of the need to stay safe around the home. So here are some recommended tips:
Sound the Alarm: Install smoke detectors on every floor of your home and carbon monoxide detectors near sleeping areas.
Avoid Overload: Check for overloaded extension cords.
Plan Your Escape: Practice a fire escape plan with your family where you identify two exits for every room.
Keep Extinguishers Handy: Place all-purpose fire extinguishers in key locations in your home—the kitchen, bedroom and basement.
Knowing that the space you live in is safe allows your brain to relax and stand down. It allows you to sleep more deeply. And according to research, a safe, secure home promotes emotional security for your children.

Today we honor the insect responsible for more than 1/3 of the food we eat.
The Honey Bee.

It is all about taking notice. When you go outside, do you stop, look, and listen.
Can you see the bees? Can you hear them buzzing from flower to flower?

Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency!
Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating World Honey Bee Day.
Get outside and take a moment to see what nature is busy creating. Listen for the sounds of the bees, the birds, the wind, and the water.

TIP 1427 – Serendipity
Thursday Aug 18, 2022
Thursday Aug 18, 2022
What a surprise. Who could have imagined that it would happen because of us meeting like this.
The Seventeenth Law of the Universe is The Law of Serendipity which states that the Universe bends in our direction by providing us with seemingly accidental and unexpected fortuitous circumstances which we often call luck.
Serendipity is the term for a “happy accident” or a “pleasant surprise.” Serendipity is an attitude in which you are always expecting happy surprises to occur.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency!
So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Serendipity Day
Step out of your routine, step out of your comfort zone, and try new things. Go new places. Meet new people. When you shake things up, you are preparing the ground for serendipity to occur.
Try taking a Serendipity Walk. A Serendipity Walk is where you wander with an empty mind. Serendipity means roving around without thinking about any problem, agenda and plan and see what happens and where you end up. No deadline and no destination. In this kind of walk you give your brain a rest and let your instinct and imagination direct you.
Serendipity Day encourages people to look for and notice those unexpected good things that are always out there, if we have the eyes to see them.

TIP 1426 – Admit You’re Happy
Wednesday Aug 17, 2022
Wednesday Aug 17, 2022
What is your burden to blessing ratio?
How often do you catch yourself complaining about something and how often are you outwardly expressing gratitude?
For most of us, we spend far too much time looking at the negative and the difficult and not nearly enough looking at the positive and the awesome.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Admit You’re Happy Month:
The more that we focus on the positive and the awesome, the bigger the impact it will have on our happiness.
Admitting that we are happy, increases our happiness.
And it encourages others to admit to being appreciative and happy in their lives.
So celebrate the brief moments that make you smile, and the occasions that knock your socks off!
Dr. Amit Sood, Professor of Medicine and the Mayo Clinic, states that life’s happiest moments have one or more of these three ingredients: Creating, Connecting, Caring.
What positive things have happened to you today? Acknowledge all of them.
Be proud of who you are. Celebrate yourself.
Keep a positive mental attitude. You’ll feel better, live better, and be happier.

TIP 1425 - What Will Be Your Legacy?
Tuesday Aug 16, 2022
Tuesday Aug 16, 2022
My son’s archery coach was very sick and my son wrote him a letter letting him know how much my son liked him as a coach and mentor, about how his helpfulness and encouragement made my son feel and how much he was going to be missed. I was told that this letter touched the man very deeply. He had a huge impact on my son and he was leaving a wonderful legacy.
So–What words would your friends use to describe you? What words would your family use? Your business partners?
This month consider what legacy you are leaving to those around you.
Is your impact something that you can be proud of? Are your behaviours aligned with your values and beliefs? What do people think of when they think of you?
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating What Will Be Your Legacy Month:
Some of the legacies that I have been gratefully left…
Financial responsibility – I watch my parents work hard to make ends meet on the family farm. Money was to be used wisely and decisions weighed against needs and wants.
Strong work ethic – They taught me that to get what you want you have to work hard and be persistent.
Community – I watched both my grandparents and parents volunteer at the church and the local chamber. I saw how they pitched in when other’s in the community needed their help. I learned that we have a responsibility to those around us and we help out when we can.
Consider the legacy that you have been left.

TIP 1424 – Relax!
Monday Aug 15, 2022
Monday Aug 15, 2022
We finally have a day off. One that we have been looking forward to. Only to be struck down with some kind of bug which makes us feel rotten. These symptoms can be a sign of leisure illness and they are often linked to stress caused by work overload and pushing ourselves too hard before taking time off.
Sometimes it is not until we stop the ‘rollercoaster ride’ that our body responds, and we experience these flu or cold like symptoms.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating National Relaxation Day:
Vacations are important to our health and well-being, so don’t wait for the ‘right’ time. Make plans to use all of your vacation allotment, whether it be a day off, an extended weekend or a longer vacation period.
Do not over-program your days off. Look for activities that are relaxing and rejuvenating.
Promote relaxation. Try deep breathing, visualization, yoga or a massage.
Get involved in a hobby. Try gardening, fishing, boating, or reading a book. Reading something uplifting activates the same positive emotion center as experiencing a happy moment first-hand.
Get out and Play. Play is important for all aspects of our lives, including creativity and relationships. When we play, we trigger a mix of endorphins that lift our spirits and the relationships that we form during play remind us that we are not alone in this world. Playing with a pet can elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine, which calm and relax us.

TIP 1423 – Reduce The Clutter
Sunday Aug 14, 2022
Sunday Aug 14, 2022
How you organize yourself can either help or hinder in the way that you deal with stress. Clean out your inbox, or clean out your closet and you’ll notice the stress relief from being organized and clutter free.
Clutter can add more chaos. But being too worried that everything is in its place can stop us from being productive and creative as well.
Your personal organization should help you to move forward, give you a sense of control over your space and help to decrease the stress that you feel.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating National Reduce the Clutter Week:
Use baskets to gather unread magazines/journals/computer accessories etc.
Colour coded file folders makes for easier identification and location of topics.
The idea of keeping sentimental treasures is not entirely practical and I am not really good at letting go. I know that there is simply no reason to save that dried flower that my first boyfriend gave me back in high school. Besides, how much am I actually enjoying anything that’s packed up in a box? We need to let these things go.
De-junk your clothes closet while you are at it. Look at the bottom third of any drawer. These are usually the clothes that you are not attached to and could be donated.
Purge periodically – it takes time but gives you more space and you may find that it can trigger your creative juices

TIP 1422 – Take A Restorative Nap
Saturday Aug 13, 2022
Saturday Aug 13, 2022
While secretly hiding to catch a nap on the job is irresponsible and dangerous, banning napping altogether may not be the best idea either.
- Are you able to nap at work?
- Are you a good napper?
- Would a napping policy be beneficial?
For some of us, napping is essential. A short nap of 20-30 minutes can help to improve mood, alertness and performance. It can be extremely effective at eliminating fatigue-related accidents and injuries and reducing workers compensation costs. Smart leaders and companies are taking note. They know that plenty of sleep is not for the weak, frail or unsuccessful.
Good Nappers are in good company: Winston Churchill, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison and George W. Bush are known to have valued an afternoon nap.
Naps can be typed into three different categories:
- Planned naps
- Emergency naps
- Habitual naps
Naps can restore alertness, enhance performance, and reduce mistakes and accidents.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating National Napping Month:
Take into account these three things when it comes to napping.
First, The right length: A short nap is usually recommended (20 minutes) for short-term alertness without leaving you feeling groggy or interfering with nighttime sleep.
The right environment that is conducive to sleep
And The right time: If you take a nap too late in the day, it might affect your nighttime sleep patterns and make it difficult to fall asleep at your regular bedtime.
A nap can provide an easy way to get some relaxation and rejuvenation

TIP 1421 – Is Romance Dead?
Friday Aug 12, 2022
Friday Aug 12, 2022
Some say that romance is dead. I don’t think that it’s dead. I just think that our expectations have been lowered. Quick and convenient has polluted our relationships to the point where the effort of being truly romantic is seen as being over the top. We settle for emoji’s, watching TV together, and hanging out.
Romance is so much more.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating National Resurrect Romance Week:
Remind your significant other as to why you cherish them in the first place.
Romance takes effort and a dash of creativity. Here are some suggestions based on the Love Languages that got me thinking:
Verbal appreciation is extremely powerful towards those who have Words of Affirmation as their primary love language. How about leaving a sweet or sexy note in their coat or on the dashboard of their car?
Acts Of Service might be breakfast in bed or even making the bed.
For those you appreciate Gift Giving, try to think of a meaningful gift, that doesn’t cost anything. Be creative like framing a favourite picture of the two of you.
Quality Time together might be setting up a date night, complete with dressing up. Or going out on an unplanned adventure together.
And for the fifth love language of Physical Touch you may try a foot massage or just holding your special someone’s hand while you drive.
Finally, remember that little romantic gestures here and there won't make an ounce of difference to the quality of your relationship if, the rest of the time, you treat your partner in unloving, negative and disrespectful ways.

TIP 1420 – Is It Time For A Check Up?
Thursday Aug 11, 2022
Thursday Aug 11, 2022
I hate going.
The pancake exam. You know, the mammogram.
While I am at it, I really don’t like going for my annual medical check-up.
I don’t like them, but I do know that they are necessary.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Annual Medical Check-Up Day:
Preventive care is important. Everyone should get the recommended immunizations and screening tests.
Here are conditions most people should be screened for:
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
Diabetes
Breast cancer
Cervical cancer
Colon cancer
Osteoporosis
And Depression
Some studies have found that people who have a yearly check-up don’t tend to be healthier or live any longer than those who forgo the visits. So this is why the annual check up is being revamped and is being replaced by the Periodic Health Visit. Rather than everyone getting the same batch of tests, doctors are supposed to focus on the specific needs of individual patients – taking into account their age, gender and medical history.
The underlying message is clear. If you are concerned about a health issue, don’t wait, see your doctor. Self-care is always a priority.

TIP 1419 – Lazy, Hazy Days
Wednesday Aug 10, 2022
Wednesday Aug 10, 2022
I like these lyrics for Lazy Day by Spanky and the Gang:
Blue sky, Sunshine, what a day to take a walk in the park.
Ice cream, Day dream, till the sky becomes a blanket of stars.
What a day for pickin' daisies, and lots of red balloons.
And what a day for holdin' hands and bein' with you.
So is it good to have a lazy day?
Though being active is healthy for us and procrastination can cause a lot of problems if it goes unchecked, taking a lazy day can actually be good for our mental health.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Lazy Day:
Taking it easy and indulging in a lazy day, can help to restore your energy and refocus your mind.
But first, you have to let go of feeling guilty, like you are being bad by not doing something productive.
Part of being successful is knowing how to add more joy to your life. Part of this is by learning to slow down and jump off the rollercoaster for a while.
Try sleeping in and repairing some of the ill-effects of sleep-debt
Go for a walk and plan nothing. Just be present and in the moment
Sit outside enjoying nature and read a good book. There is nothing like going camping and reading something that is not designed to improve my business or better my life. It is just a story to get caught up in.
A like the song says, it is a great day for just holding hands.

TIP 1418 – Holding Hands Reduces Stress
Tuesday Aug 09, 2022
Tuesday Aug 09, 2022
When it comes to holding hands it’s not all about romance.
When you hold the hands of another you are sending the message that the other person is valued, important and noticed.
James Coan of the University of Virginia found that when people hold hands, their brains don’t work as hard to cope with stress.
To hold someone’s hand is to offer them affection, protection or comfort.
A poll showed that more than half of people couldn’t remember the last time they held their grandparents hand and more than a quarter had never done so. However, almost a fifth of respondents, when asked whose hands they would most like to hold, said it would be the hand of a grandparent who has died.
Loneliness and depression are rampant in today’s society. Holding someone’s hand, especially of someone who is isolated, dealing with an illness or elderly can help them to be more resilient against the impact of stress, promote better health and combat their feelings of isolation.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Hand Holding Day:
Reach out and touch the hand of someone you love or someone in need. Not only do they reap the benefit but so do you.
Don’t wait until it’s too late and end up regretting that you didn’t grab at the opportunity.
Robert Fulgham (Everything I Learned, I Learned In Kindergarten) said:
. . . Share everything. . .When you go out in the world, Watch out for traffic, hold hands, And stick together. . . .

TIP 1417 - Choose Happiness
Monday Aug 08, 2022
Monday Aug 08, 2022
Happiness does not just happen. It has to be worked at. It is far easier to focus on the difficult, the stressful, the negative and the disappointing.
It takes effort to really notice and be thankful for the big and small things that make us happy.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Happiness Happens Day:
Happiness Happens Day aims to spread the joy of being happy and to persuade people to look on the brighter side of life.
So, raise your glass of pink lemonade to Happiness Happens Day. Why pink lemonade? Happy people naturally turn lemons into lemonade. Also pink is pretty.
Plan something fun to look forward to after work.
Get outside. Sunlight can boost our mood as it impacts our neurotransmitters and hormones.
Use different scents to boost your mood.
Phone your mum. A US study found that hearing a mother’s voice is as good as a hug for stress release.
Get away. According to one study, vacations lead to increased happiness (93%), less stress (86%), being recharged (89%), more energy (81%) and improved health (78%).
And finally, researchers found that people who count their blessings sleep better, have a higher self-worth and are more satisfied and happy with their life. So, let happiness happen. Be open to it. Be aware of what makes you happy and when you are happy.

TIP 1416 – Celebrating Professional Speaker’s Day
Sunday Aug 07, 2022
Sunday Aug 07, 2022
I would never have imagined that one day that I, Beverly, would be a public speaker.
I hated giving presentations. When I was younger I struggled with stress and public speaking. My voice would quiver. I would speak a mile a minute. My nervousness was obvious.
Some people report that they would rather be naked in public than have to deliver a speech to their peers. I would have absolutely agreed with this statement. The stress was unbelievable and public speaking was best to be avoided whenever possible.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Professional Speaker’s Day:
Public Speaking Advice: You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to be able to deliver your message effectively.
What I learned was that speaking effectively in public and professionally is rarely a natural talent, but it is one that can be learned. When you have a passion for your topic, and you immerse yourself in that topic to become an expert, the stress becomes secondary to the message that you want and need to deliver.
Remember that your audience really does want you to be successful and they are all that truly matters.
I am proud to be a professional speaker. In fact, I am a Certified Professional Speaker and a Certified Virtual Speaker. If only my high school English Teacher could see me now.

TIP 1415 – Bad Breath
Saturday Aug 06, 2022
Saturday Aug 06, 2022
We know as parents that it is up to us to teach our children how to take care of their oral health and we wouldn’t think twice to tell our child that they need to go and use some mouthwash if their breath smelled. But how do you handle it when it’s your friend, co-worker or boss? In a study by the Emily Post Institute, 75% of respondents polled said they’d want to be notified by a friend if they smelled.
Working with a colleague whose breath smells can be stressful, that’s why when doing a search on “bad breath and coworker” you can find over 1.8 million sites.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today’s Hot Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating National Fresh Breath Day:
Most workplace experts recommend that the upfront method works the best…tell the person that their breath smell today and offer them a piece of gum. You have given them a way out, by indicating that ‘today’ may mean that this is unusual or temporary and the gum lets them save face while they talk to you.
If bad breath is something that you deal with on occasion, minimize foods that can increase sulphur production and stimulate bacteria like alcohol, coffee, dairy and sugars
Stimulate saliva production which is nature’s breath freshener using sugar-free mints
Drink lots of water
Scrape the back of your tongue
If it is chronic, you need to talk to your dentist about solutions that may be right for you.

Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! So Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating Admit You’re Happy Month:
The more that we focus on the positive and the awesome, the bigger the impact it will have on our happiness.

TIP 1413 – Managing the Age Gap
Thursday Aug 04, 2022
Thursday Aug 04, 2022
What does the makeup of your team look like?
Are they mostly from the Baby Boomer or Generation X era?
Do you have any Gen Y’s or even Millennials working for you?
For the first time in contemporary history, there are four generations in the workforce — Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials and the first of Gen Z.
With employees ranging in age from their late teens to their 70s, leaders must tailor their management styles to fit their multi-generational workforce, who work with different value sets and expectations of each other.
This age difference can make it a bit more challenging for leaders to handle.
Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating our diverse workforce.
- Don’t confuse your teams by phrasing orders as suggestions: Boomer managers are often reluctant to give clear, direct, specific instructions. Although you really mean “Do it,” often we use phrases such as “You might want to consider…”, or “Have you thought about…” Gen Xers and New Millennials (Gen Yers) hear these as suggestions. They’re caught off guard when you’re later surprised to find out they didn’t carry out your directive in they way that you intended.
- Talk with them about more than just work.
- Be a leader, not a friend: Knowing and being interested in your employees isn’t the same as becoming their friends. What they’re looking for is a role model, a mentor, and a leader—not a buddy.
- Reward good work quickly: Gen X and Y employees are used to instant feedback and gratification.
- Think knowledge exchange, not knowledge transfer. As technology changes, your younger generations have the upper hand and experience. Allow them to shine as they show others how to adapt.
With 4 generations in the workplace, a strong leader can juggle these vastly different expectations, communication needs, and views about the workplace.
